New Jersey Cardinals News Release

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) lost 9-5 to the Williamsport Crosscutters (Pittsburgh Pirates). New Jersey battled back from a seven run deficit, but could not surpass the Crosscutters of Williamsport. With the loss the Cardinals become an 11-19 ball club, and Williamsport achieves its 21st victory to accompany its 8 losses. The winner, Cutter Kurt Shafer (4-1), went 5.2 innings allowing 7 hits, 4 earned runs, one walk, and one strikeout. NJC starter Mark Michael took the loss to fall to 0-2 this season. Michael did strike out seven but walked four in five innings. The six runs he allowed were all earned.

The Cardinals scored four 6th inning runs, highlighted by a Joe Mather 2-run single. Jose Virgil brought home Tuttle with a single to right field. Casey Grimm drove home the fourth of the quartet to trim the Cutter lead to 7-4. New Jersey scored in the 7th frame on a Melvin Falu sacrifice fly, scoring Matt Pagnozzi. Williamsport plated two in the top of the 8th stanza to put the game out of reach.

The Cardinals will take on the Renegades tomorrow in Hudson Valley. New Jersey returns home on Saturday, July 19th, at 5:00 PM against Hudson Valley. Chatterbox is sponsoring a Scout Sleepover. Six pack coolers are being given out courtesy of Service Electric Cable TV. A Family Catch after the game will be sponsored by Pepsi Cola.
