New Jersey Cardinals News Release

Wade Davis scattered four hits over 5 innings and James Hall had a two-run single to lead the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) to a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) Wednesday night at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey.

Davis, who struck out nine, including the side in the third and fourth innings, improved to 7-3 overall, and 3-1 against the Cardinals (32-36) this season. He avenged last Fridays 7-3 defeat at home to New Jersey by allowing just 4 hits, all singles, and one unearned run. His nine strikeouts gave him 93 for the season, tops in the NY-Penn league.

Halls single in the top of the first put the Renegades (29-37) ahead early. With two outs, Cardsstarter Quinton Robertson (2-3) hit Rhyne Hughes with a pitch, before Garret Groce doubled to left. Hall followed by grounding a ball through the hole at shortstop to stake Davis to a 2-0 lead.

The Cards cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth. After two quick outs, Craig Newton reached on an error and advanced to second on a single by Daniel Nelson. Donovan Solano then laced a single to right to cut Hudson Valleys lead to 2-1.

Groce, who finished 3-4, made it 3-1 in the seventh with an RBI single and the Renegades tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on David Cardonas fourth home run of the season and a run in the ninth when

Sean Dobsons RBI single scored Adam Rodgers, who went 3-4, in the eighth to make it 4-2.

Derek Feldkamp worked 1.2 scoreless innings for his league-leading 14th save.

The Cardinals and Renegades return to the field Thursday, September 1 for the middle game of a three-game series. Game time is scheduled for 7:15. New Jersey is set to send lefty Zack Zuercher (4-7, 4.18), while Hudson Valley looks to counter with left-hander Jacob McGee (5-3, 3.56). Thursdays game also features a stress ball giveaway, courtesy of Advanced Business Brokers.
