New Jersey Cardinals News Release
The New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets) 4-2 tonight at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey. The Cards took the opener in their final series of 2005. The Cards improved to 36-39 on the season while Brooklyn fell to 40-35. With the win the Cards snapped a 2 game losing streak against the Cyclones
The Cards jumped on top in the bottom of the 2nd without hitting the ball out of the infield. Adam Rodgers led off and walked and advanced to 2nd on Chad Gabriels ground ball back to the pitcher which was mishandled allowing both runners to reach and then Randy Roth walked to load the bases. Sean Dobson hit into a double play scoring Rodgers from 3rd.
The Cyclones tied the game in top of the 6th but the Cards responded in their half of the 6th with runners on the corner Adam Rodgers hit a 3 run home run his 5th of the season to give the Cards a 4-1 lead. The Cyclones cut the lead in half with another run in the 8th off of Jeremy Zick and had the tying run on 2nd but Zick got the last 2 guys to strike out.
The Cyclones attempted to rally after two were out in the 9th inning when they loaded the bases, but Jessen Grant got a fly ball to center fielder Yonathan Sivira to end the game. Chris Clem picked up his 1st professional victory working 7 innings and allowing 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 5. Grant picked up his 1st save of the season. Rodgers and Donovan Solano led the Cardinals offense going 5-7 with 2 runs scored and 3 runs brought in.
The Cardinals and Cyclones will close out the 2005 season tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. Adam Daniels (1-1, 4.71) will get the ball for the Cardinals and he will be opposed by Brooklyns Jeffery Landing (6-6, 2.90).
