
Cards Win In Extra Innings

New Jersey Cardinals News Release
The New Jersey Cardinals defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) 9-8 in 13 innings tonight at Skylands Park in Augusta, NJ. The Cards took 2 of 3 from the Renegades and gained a split in the season series between the 2 teams at 6 wins apiece. With the win the Cards improved to 34-36 while the Renegades fell to 29-39.
The Cards won the game on Carlos De La Cruzs bases loaded single to right which scored Jose Delgado. Michael Repole picked up the win improving to 6-2 on the season. The Cards offense was paced by De La Cruz and Adam Rodgers leading the team with 3 hits apiece. Matt Cobb took the loss for Hudson Valley and saw his record fall to 2-5.
The Renegades jumped on top 2-0 in the 2nd inning, but the Cards cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning on Yonathan Siviras solo home run his 2nd of the season. The Cards tied it in the 4th with 1 out Chad Gabriel singled and stole 2nd then advanced to 3rd on a throwing error and scored on Rodgers sacrifice fly. The Renegades regained the lead with a run in the 6th but the Cards responded in their half of the 6th with 4 runs highlighted by Rodgers single allowing Hayes to score and Gabriel scored when the ball got by the right fielder. Rodgers later scored on an error by the shortstop.
The Renegades tied the game in the 9th on a solo home run and back to back hit by pitches with the bases loaded off of closer Scott Vander Weg. The Cards had the winning run at 3rd in the 9th but could not get him in. The Gades retook the lead with 2 more in the 10th but the Cards came right back with runners at 2nd and 3rd and 2 out in the bottom of the 10th when Randy Roth drove in both runs with a triple that sneaked between the right and center fielder and had the chance to win it again but again could not get the job done.
The Cardinals head out on the road for their final road trip of 2005. They will play 2 games in Williamsport Saturday and Sunday and will then finish off the trip with 2 against Staten Island on Monday and Tuesday. The Cards will close out the 2005 season with 2 against Brooklyn on next Wednesday and Thursday with both games beginning at 7:15.
