
Expos ready for one last homestand in 2005

BURLINGTON, VT --- The Vermont Expos will wrap up their 2005 home season with three games against the Tri-City ValleyCats this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings.
Just added to Tri-City, the Houston Astros New York-Penn League affiliate, was infielder Koby Clemens, who hit .297 with four home runs in 33 games for Greenville and made his debut with the ValleyCats on Thursday. Clemens is the son of Houston Astros pitcher Roger Clemens.
The series opens at 5:05 p.m. Sunday with the first 1,000 fans receiving a Inflatable Bat courtesy of Cabot. The homestand continues on Tuesday with Government Highway Safety Night at 7:05 p.m. and the home finale is on Tuesday beginning at 7:05 p.m. and is Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Night.
There will be the annual Jersey auction of the final night of the home season. Fans can bid on all of the White Vermont Expos home jerseys, which will definitely become a collector's item as Vermont gets ready to unveil a new team name next month.
Concerning the new name, the Vermont Expos will also give away the prizes in the "Name Your Team" contest that saw over 30,000 entires. Each of those entries will be in a box and winners for lots of different prizes will be picked throughout the homestand.
Also during all three games the Vermont Expos and True Value are teaming up to sell special mini-bats for $1 with all the proceeds going to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to helpout the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The homestand will also see the addition of five new players that joined the team from the Gulf Coast League Nationals during the nine-game roadtrip. The five players are outfielder Francisco Guzman, catcher Agustin German and infielders Jean Alvarez, Jonathan Castro and Julio Figuereo.
Vermont also said goodbye to four players during the roadtrip. Infielder Andy Lane and catcher John Poppert were promoted to Potomac of the Carolina League, while infielder Eduardo Nunez and catcher Rob Sandora were promoted to Savannah of the South Atlantic League.
Gates open at 3:30 on Sunday, 5:30 on Monday and 5:30 on Tuesday for the three games. Plenty of tickets are available for the three remaining home games and can be purchased on-line at www.vermontexpos.com by phone at (802) 655-6611, at the Locker Room Store in the Champlain Mill or when the gates open at Centennial Field the day of game.
