Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
The IronBirds gift wrapped an important win for Williamsport Friday night as the Crosscutters scored a run with one out in the last of the 13th inning to beat Aberdeen, 5-4, and pull to within a game and a half of wild-card leading Lowell.
Don Levinski came on to pitch in the last of the 13th with the score tied at 4. The first batter, James Boone, reached on an error by 3B Rob Marconi and went to second on a wild pickoff throw by Levinski. Boone advanced to third on a groundout. The count reached 3-1 on the next hitter, Eddie Prasch, when Aberdeen decided to walk him. However, Levinski's attempt to throw ball four sailed out of the reach of catcher Joe Michalski and Boone trotted home with the winning run.
Aberdeen scored four in the 5th to take a 4-3 lead, getting a solo homer from Corey Shafer and two-run 2B from Ryan Finan. Williamsport scored once in the 7th to tie it, 4-4.
Marconi went 2-6 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, but Zack Davis was hitless and his 9-game streak ended.
