Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Staten Island, NY -- A night after out-slugging the Yankees, it was the Brooklyn pitching that lead the way for the Cyclones on Friday. Bobby Parnell and Robert Paulk held the Baby Bombers to only three hits en route to the Cyclones 3-0 victory. Greg Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a run scored to pace the Brooklyn offense. The Cyclones win coupled with a Lowell loss moves the Cyclones 2.5 games behind the Spinners in the race for the Wild Card with six games remaining.
Brooklyn's Bobby Parnell locked up with Jason Stephens in a pitcher's duel, as both starters kept the score locked at 0-0 through seven innings. Parnell tossed 6.2 innings, allowing only three hits while walking two and striking out four to drop his ERA to 1.85, second best in the league. In the top of the eighth, the Cyclones took advantage of the Yankees bullpen and broke the scoreless tie. Greg Gonzalez singled and Joe Holden reached on a fielder's choice to put two runners aboard for Caleb Stewart. Stewart responded by smashing a two-RBI double to left field and put Brooklyn on top by the count of 2-0. Matt Anderson followed with an RBI single to push the Brooklyn lead to 3-0, which is how the game would end.
