Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Starter Brad Bergesen pitched a gem but the host Hudson Valley Renegades came up with seven runs in the last of the 8th vs. the bullpen and Aberdeen lost its next to last game of the year, 8-6, at Dutchess Stadium.
The Renegades rallied vs. Ryan Stadanlick and Bryce Chamberlin, scoring seven times on five hits, four walks and two wild pitches.
Aberdeen took a 4-0 lead in the first on a Mark Fleisher sac fly, an RBI single by Corey Shafer and a 2-run single by Jose Zapata.
Bergesen allowed just four hits and one unearned run in six frames. He did not walk a batter and fanned a season-high eight and lowered his ERA to 4.82.
Shafer had a season-high three hits and scored twice, while Bobby Andrews had two hits and two RBI. Rob Marconi and Ryan Steinbach had two hits while Zo Scott reached base four times on a hit and three walks.
The clubs were scheduled to play a doubleheader but it was switched to one single game as the IronBirds team bus arrived too late to play two.
Aberdeen's regular bus driver, Dave Filson, experienced chest pains while driving the bus on the Jersey turnpike this morning, but pulled off to an exit, keeping the entire team safe. He was hospitalized and the team sends Dave its best wishes. It took several hours for another driver and bus to arrive, so the teams played just one game, with league approval and will play a single game at 6:10pm on Thursday night to end the year.
Again, thanks to Dave for his great job in navigating the bus and the IronBirds send him thier best thoughts and prayers !!!! Get well Dave !!!
