Cardinals pay fine for slow moving cattle
August 31, 2005 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
New Jersey Cardinals News Release
On Friday August 19th prior to the New Jersey Cardinals game against the Aberdeen IronBirds, the Cardinals held a special pre-game ceremony in which they presented two checks of $100 each to two local charities. The checks were the result of a fineimposed by NY-Penn League President, Ben Hayes for Slow Moving Cattle. The fine that Hayes levied was $100 worth of milk. The Cardinals selected two charitable organizations and decided to present each organization with a $100 check. Both Birth Haven, a home for pregnant women in need and the Norwescap Food Bank of Philipsburg, NJ were the recipients of the fine/donations.
Cardinals Vice President & General Manager Tony Torre made the presentation to Rhona Beadle, Executive Director of Birth Haven and to Becky Brooking, Development Director of Norwescap.
The Rally Cow promotion (which consists of bringing a live cow onto the field) has been a mainstay of New Jersey Cardinals home games for two seasons. The cow was delayed in getting off of the field two straight nights against Hudson Valley.
