Aberdeen, MD â The Aberdeen IronBirds today announced that actor MATTHEW MODINE will join the Aberdeen IronBirds for their upcoming homestand, July 18-25. Modine will be working out with the team each day of the homestand as he prepares to play Hall of Famer Honus Wagner in a film by TNT. The film will begin production in August and air next spring.
The film is based on and inspired by the book, Honus & Me and will be directed by John Kent Harrison who directed Modine in the film, What the Deaf Man Heard and Modine received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance.
Modine is a veteran of over 30 films including Full Metal Jacket, Birdy, Married to the Mob, Vision Quest, Gross Anatomy, Mrs. Soffel, Hotel New Hampshire and Bye, Bye Love. He has also directed four films and written three films.
"Going into this project I knew that I wanted to spend time with a team to get some basic fundamentals down and to get a real sense of what it is like to be on a team," said Modine. "Having had the opportunity to meet Cal Ripken, Jr. on several occasions, his team was the first one that I thought of. I look forward to meeting the team and having a great experience with the IronBirds."
