Winston-Salem Dash News Release

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Winston-Salem Dash defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Friday by the score of 5-0.

The Dash first struck in the top of the third inning. Duke Ellis led off with a single to center field and was soon brought home on a ground ball double from the bat of Lenyn Sosa to put the Dash up 1-0.

The offense really sped up in the seventh inning as the Dash put up a four-spot. Luis Curbelo led off and drove a liner to left field on an 0-1 count. Tyler Osik soon drew a six-pitch walk to advance Curbelo to second base. Logan O'Hoppe let a pitch sneak past him and advanced both runners to scoring position, setting the stage for Duke Ellis to single on a ground ball and score Luis Curbelo. Lazaro Leal followed with a single to load up the bases and position the Dash to score on a walk drawn by Lenyn Sosa. Following the walk from Sosa, Yolbert Sanchez connected for a two-bagger to plate both Ellis and Leal.

By the end of the seventh, the Dash led by the final score of 5-0.

Dash Starter Davis Martin (2-1, 3.38 ERA) took the win, throwing five perfect innings and striking out five BlueClaws hitters in the process. Martin was backed up by Jeremiah Burke, who earned his first save and whiffed six batters of his own. Tyler McKay (1-2, 5.25 ERA) took the loss for Jersey Shore.

The victory on Friday night moved the Dash's record to 8-8, while the BlueClaws moved to 7-9. Friday night's game also marked the first shutout victory by the Dash in 2021.

The Dash look to continue striving towards a split series in game five tomorrow afternoon at FirstEnergy Park. Noah Skirrow will take the bump for Jersey Shore. Taylor Varnell gets the ball for the Dash. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
