Winston-Salem Dash News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - For the third straight time in the six-game series, The Jersey Shore BlueClaws (7-8) took down the Winston-Salem Dash (7-8) on Thursday night by the score of 4-2.
A silent three innings gave way to Jersey Shore pinning the first run in the fourth inning. Jhaylin Ortiz was the first to reach base on a walk, and was advanced to second on another walk. Keaton Greenwalt stepped up to the plate and knocked a line drive single to score Ortiz and put the 'Claws ahead 1-0.
Jersey Shore upped the offensive game a tad in the fifth, beginning with a leadoff two-bagger from Nate Fassnacht. Fassnacht was driven home on a grounder up the middle by Hunter Markwhart, who later came home on a ground ball back to the mound off the bat of Logan O'Hoppe. By the end of the fifth, the BlueClaws enjoyed a 3-0 lead.
Jersey Shore struck again in the eighth inning, as Jhaylin Ortiz reached again on a line drive to center field. Ortiz hustled his way to third base on a Rudy Rott groundout, and scored his second run of the game on a sacrifice fly from Vito Friscia.
With a 4-0 lead heading into the ninth, the BlueClaws looked to put the Dash away in a shutout. The Dash had other plans, beginning with a Harvin Mendoza leadoff base-knock. Mendoza took second base on a liner to center by Duke Ellis. Lazaro Leal moved the hit parade along with a single to advance Mendoza and Ellis to scoring position. Mendoza touched home on a sacrifice fly from Evan Skoug. Yolbert Sanchez connected and grounded up the middle to score Ellis.
BlueClaws reliever Aneurys Zabala stopped the fun for the Dash, holding them to two runs and taking the save in the 4-2 ballgame. Andrew Brown (1-0, 0.00 ERA) recorded the win for Jersey Shore, while Dash starter Isaiah Carranza (1-2, 3.00 ERA) took the loss.
The teams' records even up with each other at 7-8. A Jersey Shore win in game four tomorrow would lock a series win for the BlueClaws, who now lead the Dash three games to none. Davis Martin will take the hill for the Dash. Tyler McKay will be handed the ball for Jersey Shore. First pitch for tomorrow's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
