INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Indians outfielder Starling Marte has been named the International League's Batter of the Week, earning the award after collecting multiple hits in all seven games during the week of June 25-July 1.
In a week in which he was also named to the International League mid-season all-star team, Marte led the International League with 15 hits, three home runs and a .968 slugging percentage. He also posted multi-hit efforts in all seven games during the week, scored in six of them and drove in multiple runs in four.
Overall, Marte finished the week with a .484 batting average (15-for-31), two doubles, two triples, three home runs, 13 RBI and nine runs scored. Following his award-winning week, Marte now ranks among the top 10 in the IL in several offensive categories, including runs (T-2nd), hits (T-5th), triples (1st), RBI (9th), total bases (6th) and stolen bases (T-5th)
The No. 4 overall prospect in the Pirates organization according to Baseball America, Marte finished off an impressive month of June in which he batted .325 (39-for-120) with 25 runs, six doubles, five triples, four home runs and 28 RBI. Marte helped lead the Tribe to a 20-9 record during the month of June, the best record in any single month since Indianapolis also went 20-9 in August of 2000.

Marte and the Indians return to Victory Field on July 4th for a two-game series against the West Division rival Louisville Bats. The special Independence day contest will get under way at 6:05 p.m., while the Thursday, July 5 matchup is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. For Tribe ticket information visit IndyIndians.com, call the Victory Field box office at 317-269-2282 or visit the box office at 501 W.
