Nate McLouth belted a solo homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth, powering Norfolk to a 5-4 comeback win over the Syracuse Chiefs Monday night at Harbor Park.

With the score knotted at 4-4 in the ninth, Syracuse reliever Hassan Pena (3-4) retired the first two batters he faced before McLouth launched a 3-1 fastball over the right-center field wall. The homer was McLouth's third of the season and lifted Norfolk to the .500 mark for the first time since the club opened the season 2-2.

The walk-off homer was Norfolk's second of the season, following a 14th inning homer by John Hester on April 13 vs. Charlotte.

The Tides had trailed 4-1 after four innings, but Norfolk plated single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh frames to tie the score.

McLouth finished with three RBI in the contest, as he drove home Xavier Avery with sacrifice flies in the first and seventh innings. McLouth has now hit safely in three straight games, going 5-for-12 with a homer and five RBI.

Brad Bergesen (4-3) earned the win with two shutout innings of relief. He stranded a runner at second base in the eighth, then stranded runners at second and third in the ninth to lower his ERA to 3.86. He's now posted a 2.01 ERA in nine outings as a reliever this season.

Bill Hall had three hits for Norfolk, while Avery finished with two hits, two walks, two runs and a stolen base.

Xavier Paul paced Syracuse with two hits and two RBI, including a solo homer in the fourth inning.

Norfolk has now won three straight, 10 of their last 13 and 14 of their last 19.

The Tides and Chiefs will wrap up their four-game set on Tuesday night, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 7:15. There will be a postgame fireworks show Tuesday, sponsored by AT&T.
