Arkansas Travelers News Release

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - In the wake of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's blockbuster deal that saw a pair of Arkansas Traveler starting pitchers be among the three-player package for Zack Greinke, the Travs are receiving a shot of excitement and talent with the promotion of Nick Maronde from Inland Empire to double-A Arkansas. The promotion was made official by the Angels early Tuesday afternoon.

Maronde (3-1, 1.82) earns the promotion after displaying dominant stuff at single-A Inland Empire where he limited hitters to a .187 (40-for-214) batting average against and fanned 60 batters in 59 1/3 innings across his 10 starts. A third-round draft pick of the Angels out of the University of Florida in 2011, Maronde had his best outing at Inland in a no-decision start on July 17th against Stockton when he worked seven hitless innings and struck out 10 batters. The 10-k performance by Maronde was his second best of the season as he racked up 12 strikeouts in seven innings against High Desert on April 27th.

So far this season, the left-hander out of Lexington, Ky. has twice been named the California League Pitcher of the Week. His last such honor was earned recently on July 23rd.

Maronde is scheduled to make his double-A debut on Thursday, August 2nd in the series finale against the Springfield Cardinals.
