Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS- A three-run sixth highlighted another Frisco victory as the 'Riders claim the series opener 5-1 over Midland Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
RockHounds' starter Murphy Smith threw four shutout innings before allowing the first run of the game to cross the plate in the fifth. Jose Felix led off the inning by hitting an infield single to third baseman Leonardo Gil. A sac bunt and ground out put Felix on third waiting to score. Mike Olt then stepped into the box and hit an RBI double to center giving the 'Riders a one-run advantage. Chris McGuiness then grounded out to end the inning.
Frisco tacked another three runs on the board in the sixth inning to extend their lead. With one out, Jared Hoying started the scoring rally with an infield single before Leury Garcia singled. A wild pitch by Smith moved both runners into scoring position. With a 1-0 count, Alex Buchholz ripped a single to left field bringing in Hoying. Left fielder Conner Crumbliss threw home to try to put out Garcia who slid in safely and allowed Buchholz to move to second. Jose Felix then hit his second single of the night bringing in Buchholz making the score 4-0. Felix would be the last batter Smith would face as Midland brought in Jose Guzman. Guzman completed the inning by striking out the next two batters.
The RockHounds looked to chip away at the score and added a run in the seventh. Frisco starter Nick Tepesch pitched six scoreless innings only allowing three hits before reliever Tim Murphy was brought in to face Jeremy Barfield. Barfield was put out on a line drive caught by Jurickson Profar. Josh Horton got things going with a single to right field before a double by Beau Taylor brought Horton in to score. Murphy then struck out Dusty Coleman and induced a ground out to end the seventh.
The last run of the game came in the eighth. Midland reliever Paul Smyth gave up back-to-back singles by Jared Hoying and Leury Garcia. The two were moved into scoring position after tagging on a fly ball to center. A ground out by Jose Felix brought Hoying in to score. Engel Beltre was then hit by a pitch putting 'Riders on the corners. However, Smyth induced a fly out to end the eighth.
Reliever Ross Wolf was brought on to pitch the ninth. After walking Jeremy Barfield, Wolf then induced a double play ball before striking out Beau Taylor to end the game.
Nick Tepesch picks up his fourth win pitching for six innings allowing three hits and no runs while walking one and striking out seven. Murphy Smith is tagged with his eighth loss of the season pitchin for 5.1 innings allowing nine hits and four runs while walking one and striking out two.
