October 11, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release
The Toronto Marlies hockey club today announced that veteran defenceman Marc Moro has been named as the team's inaugural-season captain.
Moro, 28, enters his fourth full season with Toronto's AHL affiliate. He has appeared in 229 games with the St. John's Maple Leafs collecting 30 points (seven goals, 23 assists) and 495 penalty minutes. Originally selected by the Ottawa Senators in the 2nd round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, the Toronto native has played in 30 NHL games with Anaheim and Nashville, registering 77 penalty minutes.
"Marc is a great fit for this role because he defines what encompasses this hockey team's visions and values," said Marlies head coach Paul Maurice. "His character, experience and passion for the game have all contributed into his having become a proven leader. The level of leadership that he brings to this team made it impossible to find a better captain for our first season in Toronto."
Moro is actively involved in the GTA community and will host a minimum of 10 sick or underprivileged children at Marlies home games throughout the season. This is in addition to a number of appearances that he has scheduled at area hospitals and schools.
The Marlies host the Syracuse Crunch in their home-opener at Ricoh Coliseum tomorrow evening, Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 pm. A very limited number of tickets remain and can be obtained by calling 416-597-PUCK (7825).
