Hershey Bears News Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Mike Green from Hershey of the American Hockey League, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced.
Green, who turns 20 tomorrow, is a rookie poised to make his NHL debut. He replaces right wing Stephen Peat on the roster; Peat is on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Green played two games last weekend for Hershey, recording two penalty minutes, and played in six of the Capitals' eight preseason games this season, posting one assist.
Green was the Capitals' third first-round pick in the 2004 Entry Draft, 29th overall, and played four full seasons and part of a fifth with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He was named to the WHL East first all-star team in 2004-05 when he led all WHL defensemen and finished tied for 19th in the league in scoring with 66 points (14 goals, 52 assists). His 52 assists were tied for third in the league (with fellow Capitals prospect Eric Fehr), and Green's plus/minus rating of +36 was tied for fourth in the league. He had 105 penalty minutes and led the Blades to a 37-23-6-6 record, good for second in the East Division.
