Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The Binghamton Senators began their season on Saturday night with a 4-3 overtime loss to the defending Calder Cup champion Philadelphia Phantoms.

SATURDAY, OCT. 11TH @ PHILADELPHIA (4-3 OTL): Center STEVE MARTINS scored the first Binghamton goal of the 2005-06 season to give the Sens an early lead on their East Division rivals. But forward B.J. ABEL, who only had four goals in 29 AHL games last season, scored the next two goals for the Phantoms to give Philadelphia a brief 2-1 lead. Recently acquired defenseman FILIP NOVAK tied the game with a power-play goal at 2:20 of the middle stanza. Second-year pro DANNY BOIS gave Binghamton a 3-2 lead only 36 seconds into the third period when he got the puck past Phantoms goaltender JAMIE STORR off a feed from GRANT POTULNY. The Sens would hold that lead until Philadelphia scored with less than three seconds remaining in regulation. It was the second consecutive game, dating back to Binghamton's 4-3 preseason loss to Syracuse on Monday, Oct. 3, in which the Sens lost a lead in the final three seconds of the contest. It took 3:13 of overtime for Mark Murphy to score the game-winning goal past Binghamton goalie BILLY THOMPSON, who made 35 saves on 39 shots in the losing effort. STORR stopped 31 of 34 Binghamton shots in the win. Binghamton converted on none of their eight power-play chances while Philadelphia was able to score on one of their identical eight opportunities.

THIS WEEK: The Sens will drop the puck on their fourth season of games at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena with a contest against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
