Marlies Drop Barons 6-5 in Overtime

Toronto Marlies News Release
The Toronto Marlies defeated the Oklahoma City Barons, AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, by a score of 6-5 this morning from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma.
Toronto jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Will Acton's first goal of the season, 36 seconds into the game. The Marlies would add to their lead with three goals in the final three minutes of the first period. Nicolas Deschamps, Kenny Ryan and Greg Scott scored within a span of 1:27 to give the Marlies a 4-0 lead heading into the second period. Toronto outshot Oklahoma City 12-10 in the opening frame. Taylor Hall would trim Toronto's lead to three with his third goal of the season coming on the powerplay just past the 16-minute mark of the middle period. The Barons outshot the Marlies 11-6 in the second frame. The two teams exchanged goals to start the third period, with Mark Arcobello and Mike Zigomanis scoring for their respective clubs. Later in the period, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Teemu Hartikainen scored consecutive goals with the extra man, trimming Toronto's lead to one goal with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Nugent-Hopkins would tie the game at five on his second goal of the game with 22 seconds remaining in regulation. After four and a half minutes of scoreless hockey in overtime, Jake Gardiner won the game for Toronto on his fifth goal of the season with 28 seconds left on the clock.
The Marlies will play their final game of eight straight on the road at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton this coming Friday. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. Toronto returns home on Saturday and Sunday for games against the Hamilton Bulldogs and Abbotsford Heat, respectively. Puck drop for both games is 3 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the team's ticket line at 416-597-PUCK (7825).
