Marks and Stewart team up for the "Rai$ing Race"
August 11, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - Grrrowl Head Coach JOHN MARKS and General Manager RYAN STEWART are teaming up for charity, as they will participate in the first annual Rai$ing Race. The event, based on CBS's hit show The Amazing Race, will raise money to build a cottage for The Calvary Home for Children, located in Anderson, SC. The Calvary Home helps fight child abuse, and the cottage will be named after Leslie Mazzara, an Anderson native who strongly supported the program.
Leslie was tragically murdered last fall in Napa Valley, California. She was very passionate about child abuse prevention, and worked very hard to raise funds for The Calvary Home for Children. Leslie was the best friend of Kelly McCorkle, former Miss South Carolina and contestant on Season 7 of The Amazing Race.
As a living memorial to Leslie, Kelly and Leslie's family and friends have taken on her passion for abused children. In honor of Leslie, it is their dream to raise enough funds to build a cottage for abused children and name it "Leslie's Cottage."
Marks and Stewart will experience everything that comes along with participating in The Amazing Race. There will be clues, detours, roadblocks, and pit stops. They'll even experience the cameras, as national and local media will cover the event.
The race will begin Friday at the Anderson Civic Center and conclude Saturday evening at the same location. Other teams include contestants from Season 7 of the Amazing Race and local celebrities. Grrrowl fans are encouraged to join Marks, Stewart and Grrruff at the Rai$ing Race Finale Celebration Saturday at 5:30, located at the Anderson Civic Center.
