Daytona Tortugas News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - C Mark Kolozsvary reached base three times and drove in a run, but Bradenton pushed runs across in all but two frames, as the Marauders defeated the Daytona Tortugas, 11-5, in front of 1,587 fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Bradenton (33-23) jumped out of the gate early. LF-1B Lucas Tancas (3-5, 3 R, RBI) brought home a tally on a throwing error in the first, while C Deon Stafford (3-4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, BB) smashed a solo home run - his second of the year - in the second. Ahead 2-0, the Marauders added two more in the third on a two-run single to center by Stafford.
The Tortugas (30-27) finally got on the board in the third, as CF Stuart Fairchild (1-5, R, RBI, 2 SO) chased home 2B Alejo López (1-4, R, BB) with a fielder's choice.
In the fifth, Bradenton created some added separation. A Stafford single brought in a tally to make it 5-1 and a wild pitch permitted 1B-C Raúl Hernández (0-3, 2 R, 2 BB, SO) to cross, as well. A throwing error later in the inning allowed Stafford to come home, extending Daytona's deficit to six, 7-1.
An 2B-SS Adrián Valerio (2-5, RBI, SO) RBI single in the seventh stretched Bradenton's lead to 8-1. An inning later, DH Dylan Busby (1-3, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, SO) collected a two-run single into right field to put the Marauders up by nine, 10-1.
Daytona would rally for four runs in the bottom of the eighth. SS Yonathan Mendoza (1-5, R, 2 RBI, SO) brought the Tortugas within seven courtesy of a two-run knock to center. A sacrifice fly by C Mark Kolozsvary (1-1, RBI, 2 BB) and a tally-producing fielder's choice from RF Andy Sugilio (0-4, RBI, SO) whittled the deficit to five, 10-5.
A lone run from Bradenton - courtesy of a sacrifice fly from LF Chris Sharpe (0-0, RBI) - pushed the visitor's lead to 11-5 in the top of the ninth.
LHP ReÃver SanmartÃn's (4.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO) scoreless inning streak came to a close at 15.1, as the 23-year-old suffered his fourth loss of the campaign for Daytona.
Bradenton's LHP Joe Jacques (3.0 IP, H, 4 SO) hurled three spotless frames of relief to garner his first Florida State League victory. RHP Hunter Stratton (4.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) went four strong in a no-decision.
Daytona will look to return to the win column on Tuesday, as RHP Ryan Lillie (1-4, 3.38 ERA) is expected to toe the slab. Bradenton has not yet announced their starter for the affair.
The Tortugas Pre-Game Show will kick off the broadcast at 6:50 p.m. ET, leading up to the 7:05 p.m. ET start at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Tuesday evening's contest can be heard on daytonatortugas.com or via the TuneIn Radio and MiLB First Pitch apps.
