Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - Dragons fans may remember the left hander as either Cleris Severino (2002) or Juan Frias (2003). The southpaw has been known as Juan Frias, since the start of his second season in a Dragons uniform in 2003. Frias is once again back with the Miami Valley's team as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery which sidelined him from July 18, 2004 through June 23, 2005. Frias spent the '04 season with the Potomac Cannons of the Carolina League and injured the elbow in a game on July 17, 2004 vs. the Winston-Salem Warthogs. After nearly a year long rehab stint, the lefty returned to the hill in '05 with the GCL Reds, making three appearances in Sarasota before getting moved to Dayton. Frias will get the start for the Dragons in the opening game of a four game series with Southwest Michigan Friday night at Fifth Third Field.

A spot for Frias opened on the Dragons roster when RHP Josh Thigpen was placed on the DL with a right elbow strain. Thigpen pitched in Thursday's series finale with the Lansing Lugnuts and threw 4.0 innings before being replaced on the mound to start the fifth. In 13 appearances with the Dragons in 2005, Thigpen is 4-4, with a 4.99 ERA. The Dragons roster currently stands at 25 players.
