Kane County Cougars News Release

Lansing, MI - Myron Leslie's two-run home run in the eighth and Eddie Kim's pinch-hit three-run shot in the ninth led the Kane County Cougars to their fifth consecutive victory and a 7-5 decision against the Lansing Lugnuts Friday night at Oldsmobile Park. The Cougars are a season-high four games above .500.

Leslie's round-tripper in the eighth came against Scott Roy with Javier Herrera at second base. Trailing 3-2, Herrera smacked a lead-off double before Leslie's sixth homer of the year put the Cougars ahead 4-3. The Lugnuts' Christian Snavely responded with a solo shot in the bottom half against Tomas Cabaniel to bring the score even at 4-4. That set the stage for Kim in the ninth. With two outs and nobody on base, Cliff Pennington doubled against Roy and Herrera walked. Kim entered for Tommy Everidge and crushed an inside fastball over the tall fence in right for a 7-4 game. Rob Semerano gave up one run in the bottom of the ninth before notching his 10th save.

Kane County grabbed the lead in the first against Lansing starter Chi-Hung Cheng when Everidge connected for a sacrifice fly to bring in Nick Blasi. Cougars starter Mike Rogers gave up two tallies in the fourth and another in the sixth before leaving. Rogers allowed the three runs on five hits, walked two and struck out four. Each team scored once in the sixth to set up the late-inning dramatics. Jose Pineda tripled and scored on Luis Perez's single while the Lugnuts plated a runner without getting a hit off Rogers.

Cabaniel (1-0) got the win after erasing jams in the seventh and eighth. Roy (1-3) suffered the loss for the Lugnuts. Game two of the four-game series is Saturday night at 6:05 CDT. Tony Evans (5-0, 1.49) is scheduled to take the mound for the Cougars (10-6) against right-hander Danny Core (3-4, 7.91) for Lansing (8-8).
