South Bend, IN - One of the few teams the South Bend Silver Hawks have had troubles with during the 2005 season, is the first half runner up Fort Wayne Wizards. Friday night at the Cove, the Hawks problems with the Wizards continued, as Fort Wayne scored four runs in their final two at-bats in a 6-1 win over the Silver Hawks..
Chris Kolkhorst opened the inning with a single up the middle. Sean Kazmar followed with a single through the hole at second base, moving Kolkhorst to second base. Tom Vincent singled to left field, scoring Kolkhorst as Kazmar moved to third. After starter Koley Kolberg picked off Vincent at first, Matt Lauderdale walked to put runners on the corners. With two out and Lachlan Dale batting, Kolberg fired a wild pitch to score Kazmar and give the Wizards a 2-1 advantage.
With one out in the eighth, Chris Kolkhorst started the offense for the Wizards again with a single to center. Sean Kazmar followed by clobbering a Corby Medlin offering over the left field wall to push the Fort Wayne lead to 4-1.
Yordany Ramirez added a two run home run to give the Wizards their margin of victory.
Koley Kolberg took the loss for the Hawks and drops to 4-4, while Mike Ekstrom gets the victory and improves to 11-3.
The Silver Hawks (51-35) continue their four game series with the Fort Wayne Wizards (41-45) Saturday night. The Silver Hawks will start Kellen Raab (3-2) against the Wizards Clayton Hamilton (8-6). Saturday's are Meijer Family Fun Saturday with Sunny 101.5 - Pick up a discount voucher at Meijer and receive 4 box seat tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 Pepsi products and a game program for just $24.00. Plus, tomorrow nights will be movie night after the game. Saturday's feature will be "The Bad News Bears. First pitch is slated for 7 PM.
