
Sopko sails south as 5th Lansing player sent to Dunedin

LANSING - The Toronto Blue Jays have announced today that right handed pitcher Mark Sopko has been promoted to the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League. Sopko becomes the fifth Lansing player from this year's club to make it to Dunedin, joining Casey Janssen, Chip Cannon, Danny Hill and Kyle Yates. Janssen was also promoted again, this time to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the Double-A Eastern League. Joining the Lugnuts to take Sopko's roster spot is right handed pitcher Aaron Tressler.
Sopko leaves the Lugnuts after just pitching in the series finale between Lansing and Dayton in Fifth Third Field in Ohio on Thursday night. In 23 games with the Lugnuts, the Joliet, IL native departs with a mark of 0-1 and a 2.94 ERA with four saves. He struck out 24 hitters in 33.2 IP.
Tressler, a 23-year-old native of Pennsylvania Furnace, PA and a former Penn State University product, joins the Lugnuts from Auburn in the New-York Penn League. In Auburn, the 32nd round pick in the 2004 draft was 1-0 was 11 strikeouts in 13.1 IP, a span of five games. Previously, Tressler had opened his pro career in Dunedin and on the season between Dunedin and Auburn, he has amassed a record of 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in seven games.
The Lugnuts active roster sits at 25 as Lansing opens a four-game set with Kane County tonight at Oldsmobile Park. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and a post-game fireworks display will be presented by LAFCU, Your Credit Union For Life.
