Calgary Roughnecks News Release
DENVER - Josh Sims earned his third transition player of the week award this season and Jamie Shewchuk was named rookie of the week, the National Lacrosse League announced on Wednesday.
Sims was named the league's top transition player for Week 6 after recording three goals and three assists in the Colorado Mammoth's 16-7 victory over the Edmonton Rush on Saturday at Pepsi Center. He also collected 11 loose balls and scored a shorthanded goal.
Sims, who has 21 points in six games this season, has already eclipsed his point total of 19 from last season. He also leads the first-place Mammoth (6-1) with 58 loose balls, despite missing one game because of a work commitment.
Forward Jamie Shewchuk was named the week's top rookie after scoring three goals - including two on the power play - and collecting three loose balls in the Mammoth's win over the Rush.
Shewchuk leads all NLL rookies with 12 goals and ranks fifth on the Mammoth in scoring with 20 points.
Toronto Rock goaltender Bob Watson earned both the overall and defensive player of the week awards and Arizona Sting forward Dan Dawson was named the offensive player of the week.
The NLL's weekly player awards are determined by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the league's 13 member clubs.
