San Jose Stealth News Release
(San Jose, CA, February 7, 2007) --- In their second blockbuster trade of the season, the San Jose Stealth have acquired Forward Andrew Burkholder and a 2007 First Round Entry Draft Pick from the Colorado Mammoth in exchange for Defenseman Jim Moss.
Burkholder comes to the Stealth after winning the 2006 Champions Cup with Colorado and posting six goals and seven assist in only six regular season games. The leftie from St. Catharine's, ON also scored six goals and one assist during the 2006 post season. Over the course of his two year NLL career, Burkholder has played in 18 games and totaled 44 points off 23 goals and 21 assists.
"We are excited to add a player of Andrew's caliber to the Stealth," said San Jose Assistant General Manager Doug Locker. "He is an excellent attacker with a proven track record in the NLL, playing a big part in Colorado's NLL Championship a year ago. Andrew is the type of player who will do whatever is asked of him to win lacrosse games."
Burkholder was originally drafted No. 22 by the Toronto Rock in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft before being acquired by the Philadelphia Wings. In his first season, Burkholder was named NLL Rookie of the Week three times and earned a spot on the 2005 All Rookie Team after posting seventeen goals and fourteen assists in eleven games for the Wings. Burkholder was traded to Colorado in 2006 and scored four goals in his debut game as a Mammoth.
Moss has spent his entire six-year career playing for the Stealth franchise, posting 38 goals, 34 assists, and 122 face-off wins in 81 games. Moss earned the 2003 NLL Defenseman of the Year Award and was one of three Stealth players selected to the NLL Western Division All-Star team in 2004.
This is the second big trade in as many months for the San Jose Stealth. On December 26, the Stealth acquired 2005 NLL MVP Colin Doyle, Darren Halls and a 2007 First Round NLL Entry Draft Pick from the Toronto Rock in exchange for Ryan Benesch, Kevin Fines and Chad Thompson. Doyle currently leads the Stealth in points (32) and assists (26) after scoring a franchise-record nine assists in an overtime victory against Calgary on January 12.
