Mallards Set Playoff Roster
March 28, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced their roster for the 2011 CHL Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Playoffs.
Per CHL rules, each playoff team can carry up to 19 players and, during the postseason, can add up to two additional amateur players.
The Mallards have supplemented their 19-man roster with the addition of amateur defenseman Erik Spady.
Center Eric Giosa, goaltender David Brown and left wing Joe Blaznek return to the Mallards' active roster for the playoffs.
Giosa, the Mallards' top goal scorer, has been activated from 30-day injured reserve; Brown returns after being called up to the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins earlier this month and Blaznek rejoins the team after missing the Mallards' final two regular season games while on CHL leave last weekend.
Defenseman Tyler Kindle, center Drew Akins and goaltender Justin Grant are not on the playoff roster.
Spady, 21, completed his college career at Northern Michigan earlier this month.
The Deroche, British Columbia, native spent the last four seasons as a teammate of the Mallards' Jared Brown, who arrived in the Quad Cities on March 17 after the finishing his senior campaign at NMU.
The 5' 11", 205-pound Spady scored once and totaled seven points in 33 games with the Wildcats this season.
Over his four years at Northern, Spady produced four goals and 20 points in 134 games and last season was part of the first Wildcat squad to reach the NCAA tournament in a decade.
Spady spent two years in the junior ranks with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the British Columbia Hockey League before moving on to NMU.
The Mallards will face the Colorado Eagles in the best-of-five opening round of the CHL's Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Playoffs beginning with game one Friday night at 8:05 p.m. in Loveland, Colorado.
