August 13, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Niles, Ohio - Joseph Colon and two relievers combined to allow two runs on seven hits
but the Scrappers bats were silenced in the later innings in a 2-1 loss to the Brooklyn Cyclones.
The Scrappers had just two hits, a one-out single by Jerrud Sabourin in the third inning
and an RBI single by Todd Hankins in the fourth. Hankins' single tied the game at 1-1 after
Brooklyn scored a run on a Richard Lucas double in the third.
The Cyclones scored the go-ahead run in the sixth off reliever Ramon Cespedes. They
had back-to-back singles to start the inning before Cespedes threw a wild pitch, advancing the
runners to second and third. Cole Frenzel grounded out to Hankins at second base, plating what
turned out to be the winning run.
Brooklyn starter Randy Fontanez and two relievers combined to retire the final 17
Scrappers batters to come to the plate. Reliever Steven Winnick picked up the win to improve to
2-0. Todd Weldon pitched the final three innings for his fourth save of the season.
The loss went to Cespedes, who fell to 0-1 this season.
The Scrappers and Cyclones will conclude their three-game series on Sunday night at
5:05 pm.
