Auburn Doubledays News Release
Staten Island, NY - Entering play Friday night, the Staten Island Yankees and Auburn Doubledays were one and two for best record in the New York-Penn League. After Friday night's game, one would have thought it was the other way around.
Powered by fourteen hits and twelve runs, the Doubledays blew out the Staten Island Yankees in a 12-3 beating at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Friday night.
With the win, Auburn regained a full game lead in the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division ahead of Mahoning Valley who lost on Friday night.
Despite giving up two runs in the bottom of the first to fall into an early hole, the Doubledays grabbed the game's momentum quickly, scoring five in the second and three in the third. Auburn used a bases loaded walk to Billy Burns, a two-RBI single by Wilfri Pena and a two-RBI double by Bryce Ortega to plate five in the second, and followed with runs in the third on a fielding error, groundout, and base-hit by Caleb Ramsey.
Single tallies were added by Auburn in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and ninth innings as the Doubledays went on to a blowout defeat of Staten Island, 12-3.
Chad Jenkins got the win for the Doubledays, giving up just one run and two hits in three and one-third innings. Alex Kreis worked the final two innings, striking out five.
Auburn will try to win their fourth straight series tomorrow in a 7:00pm start against the Staten Island Yankees. Fans are invited to listen to the 'Voice of the Doubledays,' John Miller, call the game live on 89.1 FM in Auburn, NY or at www.auburndoubledays.com.
