Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

STATE COLLEGE, PA - The Connecticut Tigers came back from an early hole and took down the State College Spike 6-4 on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Like in last night's win, the Spikes got on the board first with a run in the first inning. Wes Freeman led off with a base hit, advanced to second on a stolen base and then to third on a Junior Sosa sacrifice bunt. Freeman would come in to score on a Dan Gamache sacrficie fly, putting the Spikes up 1-0.

The Tigers tied the game in the third on a Eugenio Suarez solo homer, his third of the season. Tyler Collins led off the fourth inning with a single, moved up to second on a stolen base and scored on a Jason King RBI single to put Connecticut up 2-1.

Connecticut would add three more runs and break the game open in the sixth on a Dean Green RBI groundout, King RBI triple and a wild pitch from the Spike's Joan Montero, giving the Tigers a 5-1 lead. Green now has an RBI in five straight games.

With a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth the Tigers brought Scott Green out of the bullpen. He gave up two runs to allow the Spikes back in the game, but was able to shut the door and preserve the Tigers victory.

King finished the night 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI's, while Patrick Leyland had a two-hit night as well.

Tommy Collier tied his season-high with 5.2 innings pitched, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out four to earn his second win of the season for Connecticut. The Tigers have won five of their last six games and three in a row.

The Tigers will play the second game of the three-game series against the State College Spikes tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
