December 22, 2021 - NBA G League (G League)
Osceola Magic News Release
The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors 96-83 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On Friday, December 17, the Lakeland Magic set the NBA G League record for most call-ups in one day as the Orlando Magic signed Lakeland players Aleem Ford, Hassani Gravett, BJ Johnson, and Admiral Schofield to 10-day contracts. Following those transactions, Lakeland signed Jibreel Faulkner, Jaire Grayer, Quade Green and Isaiah Ross from the NBA G League player pool to play with the team in the Winter Showcase.
Lakeland's first of two games at the Winter Showcase in Las Vegas was broadcast nationally on ESPN2. The Magic got out to an early lead against the Warriors with back-to-back threes from Jon Teske and Samir Doughty. Doughty continued his hot shooting in the closely contested first quarter and finished the period with 11 points on 3-4 from behind the arch. Kalob Ledoux led the way for Santa Cruz with 14 points in the first half with the score knotted up at 42 going into the break.
Quinndary Weatherspoon and Eddie Stansberry both contributed strong third quarters to help give the Warriors a four-point edge going into the fourth. Doughty started the final period with another made three-point shot and the Magic battled back to regain the lead. As the fourth quarter wore on, it was the Warrior's defense and Jordan Bell's work on the glass that helped Santa Cruz claim the victory in the low scoring match.
Doughty led all scorers with 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Teske finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. TJ Haws added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Weatherspoon posted 18 points, five rebounds and two assists for the Warriors. Ledoux finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Bell added 13 points, 18 rebounds and three assists.
The Lakeland Magic take on the Salt Lake City Stars tomorrow night at 8 PM EST in Las Vegas for their final game of the NBA G League Winter Showcase. The game can be seen on ESPN+.
