November 11, 2022 - NBA G League (G League)
Osceola Magic News Release
The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeated the Austin Spurs 117-107 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
The Magic got out to an early lead behind a 9-point first quarter from point guard Zavier Simpson. Lakeland's Simi Shittu scored 12 first half points on a blistering 6-7 from the field. The duo combined for 21 points to help bring the Magic a 13-point lead going into the break.
Malaki Branham was on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs. Branham was knocking down shot after shot before going down with an ankle injury. The Spurs' first round pick did not return to the game for the second half. The Spurs never reclaimed their lead in the second half of the game.
The Magic continued to build in the second half with momentum behind guards Jay Scrubb and Drake Jefferies. The two guards went on to perform a shooting clinic from downtown, with the Magic leading the Spurs at one point by 20 points.
In the first game of a back-to-back, the Magic exploded with 117 points. Shittu finished the game with a strong performance. "Coach preaches 'Team' a lot. We are close on and off the court. When we are on the court, chemistry clicks", Shittu said.
After opening the regular season with two games on the road, the Lakeland Magic finally got the opportunity to play at their home in Central Florida.
The Lakeland Magic and Austin Spurs face off again on Saturday, November 12 at 7 PM at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
