Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Dash star Nick Madrigal and current Dash outfielder Steele Walker have been named the White Sox Minor League co-Players of the Month for June, while Winston-Salem right-hander Kade McClure has been named the White Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month for June.
Madrigal, who was selected fourth overall by Chicago last year out of Oregon State University, played four games for the Dash last month before being promoted to Double-A Birmingham on June 6.
In 20 games for the Barons in June, Madrigal posted a .370 batting average and an .896 OPS. The 22-year-old has hit safely in each of his last nine games, and he currently leads Minor League Baseball with a 2.6 percent strikeout rate.
Walker, who was selected in the second round last year out of the University of Oklahoma, posted a .330 batting average, a .379 on-base percentage and a .523 slugging percentage in 22 games in June for the Dash. The 22-year-old also recorded a nine-game hitting streak from June 14-26, during which he went 18-for-41 (.439) with three homers, 11 RBIs, five doubles and a triple. Overall, Walker registered a hit in 17 out of his 22 games played last month.
The former Sooner also hit for the third cycle in Dash history (2009-present) on June 14 at Carolina, becoming the first Winston-Salem player to accomplish the feat since Mason Robbins went for the cycle on April 27, 2016, against Lynchburg at BB&T Ballpark.
On the mound, McClure has flourished since earning a promotion to Winston-Salem from Low-A Kannapolis on June 1. A sixth-round pick by the White Sox in 2017 out of the University of Louisville, McClure went 1-1 with a 2.12 ERA in five High-A starts last month.
In his debut for Winston-Salem on June 2, McClure allowed just one run in six innings at Fayetteville, beginning a stretch of 20.2 consecutive scoreless frames. In total, four out of McClure's five outings for Winston-Salem have been quality starts.
With Tuesday's announcement, all seven monthly award winners this season have spent time with the Dash.
Luis Robert, who began the year in Winston-Salem, won both the April and May Player of the Month award. Southpaw Konnor Pilkington, who is currently with the Dash, won the April Pitcher of the Month award after a dominant run with Kannapolis. Left-hander Kyle Kubat, who made four dominant starts for Winston-Salem before being promoted to Birmingham, won the May Pitcher of the Month Award.
A panel of Chicago-area media members was responsible for the voting of the award winners.
