TONIGHT: After losing their second straight in last night's series opener, the Mudcats continue brief three game road trip tonight with game two of a three game series versus the Pelicans at TicketReturn.com Field in Myrtle Beach. Tonight's game is the second of three in the series and eighth of 15 total meetings between the two teams this season. It is also the second of nine second half meetings between the two Southern Division rivals. Carolina swept the last series between the two teams in mid-May (5/10-5/12) at Five County Stadium and took two of three versus the Pelicans in Myrtle Beach in late April (4/23-4/25).
ICYMI: Trever Morrison's game tying RBI double in the second proved to be all of Carolina's run production in a series opening 4-1 loss to the Pelicans on Monday night in Myrtle Beach. Aaron Ashby started for Carolina and allowed four runs on two hits and five walks while taking the loss. Carolina ended up out-hitting the Pelicans in Monday's series opener after totaling six hits against just two for Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans, however, used a sac fly in the first to score the game's first run and went on to break a 1-1 tie in the second with a run scoring ground out and two-out throwing error from third baseman Eddie Silva. That two-out error put the Pelicans up 3-1 in the game. Another error by Morrison on a potential double play ball in the fifth also allowed across the fourth and final Myrtle Beach run of the game.
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Carolina's pitchers (Aaron Ashby, Cody Beckman and Michael Petersen) combined to allow just two hits in last night's loss to the Pelicans in Myrtle Beach. The loss was Carolina's first this season when allowing just two hits in a game this season; dropping them to 3-1 in two-hitters... Last night's game was also marked the third time Carolina had tossed a two-hitter in the second half (9 games, 6/23, 6/27, 7/1).
