Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, WI - The Mallards' offense commanded Game Two of their series with Kenosha, splitting the final series of the season played between the two with a 14-4 win at Warner Park.
Tommy Meyer turned in another quality start for Madison on Friday night by tossing four scoreless innings and striking out a new career high eight batters. Prior to his sixth assignment, Madison only averaged four runs per game behind Meyer this summer. Today, the team gave the southpaw 14 runs in the blowout win. Madison claimed a 1-0 lead against Cole Tolbert in the bottom of the 2nd when Owen Jackson scored on a walk, two wild pitches, and the first of four Kenosha errors. In the 4th, three consecutive singles from the bottom of the order pushed Madison ahead 4-0.
The lead grew to eight in the bottom of the 5th inning on Cal Fisher's fourth home run in the last four games. Madison homered twice in the bottom of the 6th inning. Ryan Sprock smashed a solo shot to the opposite field and Jackson Tucker ripped a three-run bomb later in the frame to blow the doors open. Madison would score two more runs in the 7th on Isaiah Jackson's second triple of the season. The Mallards' tallied 13 runs over innings 4 through 7.
Chad McCann took over for Meyer in the top of the 5th inning and backed up the Mallards' starter by tossing up three zeros of his own. Kenosha scored their first runs in the top of the 8th against Jake Hilton and Andrew Ravelo out of the bullpen including a two-run homer off the bat of Lance Trippel.
Madison improves to 3-1 in the second half and prepares to begin a home-and-home series with the Wausau Woodchucks on Saturday night at 6:05 P.M. CST from Athletic Park.
