York Revolution News Release
YORK, Pa. (Baseball) - The 2015 NCAA Division III Baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional is coming to York. The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), in partnership with the York Revolution and Sport York of the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau, will host this year's NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional at Santander Stadium- home of the York Revolution- from May 13-17.
"The MAC is delighted to have the opportunity to host the baseball regional at Santander Stadium, and we look forward to working with many of our conference schools on providing a great experience for the baseball student-athletes," said Ken Andrews, MAC Executive Director. "Having hosted the Commonwealth Conference baseball tournament at Santander Stadium last year, and our swimming championship at nearby Graham Aquatic Center, York is a great location to experience championships for both teams and fans."
The winner of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament will advance to the Division III Baseball Championship in Appleton, Wisconsin at Fox Cities Stadium from May 22-26.
"Hosting the NCAA Division III regional at one level is just cool- it's neat to bring this high-level collegiate baseball event to our ballpark," said Eric Menzer, President of York Revolution. "On another level, it's an example of how we're using our resources to build our business outside of the core professional baseball business. The Eventive special events model along with WOYK and our management of the York Ice Arena are all part of our strategy to be the go-to brand for well-executed entertainment experiences in York."
Santander Stadium, which opened for the 2007 season, will host its ninth season of York Revolution baseball this year. The Revolution are members of the Freedom Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. York won the league championship twice, in back-to-back years, in 2010 and 2011.
"Sporting venues such as Santander Stadium have solidified York County's position as Pennsylvania's Premier Sports Destination," said Anne Druck, President of the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We thank the NCAA for bringing such a prestigious baseball event to York and the MAC for its continued recognition of our value through its repeat business at Santander Stadium and York County's Graham Aquatic Center."
MAC member Misericordia University has hosted the last two Mid-Atlantic Regionals. The Cougars, who are a member of the Freedom Conference in baseball, are hoping to win their fourth-straight Freedom Conference Championship this weekend in West Lawn, Pa.
Alvernia University defeated Widener for this year's Commonwealth Conference title by score of 6-1. The MAC is looking for its first Division III Baseball Championship qualifier since the 2003 season when DeSales University punched its ticket after winning the Mid-Atlantic Regional.
"I am thrilled that the MAC has been selected to host the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Regional," said Bill Stiles, Alvernia University Athletic Director and NCAA Site Representative. "It is especially rewarding to be working with my conference colleagues in my final year on the NCAA Division III Baseball Committee. Santander Stadium is one of the top baseball venues in the region, and the York Revolution is a top-notch professional baseball organization. I have no doubt that the MAC, the Revolution staff and Sport York will collaborate to provide the teams and student-athletes with a memorable championship experience."
The NCAA Division III Baseball regional field will be announced late Sunday, May 10 at NCAA.com after all conference championship events have concluded.
The Mid-Atlantic Region qualifiers will be available at the regional central page once announced. All regional information, including admission prices, directions, parking and hotels is also available on the regional central page.
