York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution enjoyed a big first inning and a big ninth inning, but it was the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs who scored eight unanswered runs in between to defeat York, 9-7 in front of 4,439 fans at Santander Stadium on Friday night. York's three-game winning streak is snapped as the Revs fall to 6-8 on the season. Southern Maryland improves to 7-7, having won back-to-back games for the first time on the year, breaking the second place tie with York. The two teams will continue their series on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.

Southern Maryland plated an unearned run in the top of the first without a base hit for the initial lead. Antone DeJesus drew a walk to start the game, reached second on a fielder's choice with no outs recorded on the play, moved to third on a double play, and scored with two outs on a passed ball.

York responded by sending nine batters to the plate in the home half of the first, scoring four runs on five hits to claim an early 4-1 advantage. Wilson Valdez started the rally with a one-out single to center. Eric Patterson doubled to right-center, and Andres Perez walked to load the bases. Brandon Jones drove in the first run on an infield single, and Bryan Pounds followed with an RBI single to left for the second run. With two outs, Luis De La Cruz rapped a two-run single to right to punctuate the outburst.

The score remained the same into the fifth inning when the Blue Crabs commenced their comeback on a leadoff home run to left field by Casey Frawley.

Southern Maryland suddenly tied the score in the sixth inning, as Fred Lewis bunted for a single and Gustavo Molina launched a two-run homer to left, knotting things at 4-4. It was Molina's fourth home run in his last three games played.

The Blue Crabs took the lead in the top of the seventh with three consecutive one-out singles. Daryle Ward pulled a base hit to right to cap the rally, and with the ball fumbled by Patterson, Casey Stevenson came home to score the go-ahead run, unearned on the error.

Southern Maryland seemingly put the game out of reach, scoring four times in the eighth. The Blue Crabs used three hits and took advantage of three walks. Stevenson cleared the bases with a three-run double down the left field line, while Ward added an RBI single to right, making it a 9-4 game.

Down to their final out, the Revs pieced together a rally in the ninth to eventually bring the tying run to the plate. It started as Patterson worked a walk to keep the game alive, and Perez followed with an RBI double to left-center. After a single to right from Jones, Pounds ripped a two-run double down the left field line, making it a two-run game. Southern Maryland then called on closer Erik Hamren who entered to record a game-ending strikeout, notching his third save.

Sean Keeler (1-0) earned the win as one of six Blue Crab relievers used in the game. The righty faced just one batter, but made a nice play on a sharp comebacker off the bat of Willie Cabrera to strand the potential go-ahead run at second base in the sixth.

Revs reliever Stephen Penney (1-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing the unearned run in the seventh inning.

It was a tough night for the York bullpen, which had allowed just one run in 15.0 innings over the previous four games. The unit was charged with seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits over 4.0 innings in Friday's contest.

York starter Anthony Lerew took a no-decision, allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits in five innings. He walked four, but struck out five.

Southern Maryland starter Brian Baker did not factor in a decision, but factored in his team's ability to come from behind, allowing nothing else after the big first inning. The righty rebounded to face the minimum from the second through the fourth, and pitched into the sixth inning before turning it over to the bullpen.

York's seven runs tied a season-high, while the Revs' 13 hits established a new best. Jones and Pounds both went 3-for-5 with Pounds collecting a team-best three RBI. Mikey Reynolds went 2-for-5 and Valdez finished 2-for-4.

Southern Maryland also totaled 13 hits and had six players record multi-hit efforts. The Blue Crabs took advantage of seven walks, the most issued in a game by the Revs this season.

York lefty Logan Williamson (0-1, 0.82) will face Southern Maryland right-hander Jake Hale (1-1, 5.25) in Saturday's matchup. It is the second night of Xpogo stunt performances at the ballpark, and is also Mother's Day Saturday presented by Kid to Kid. The night concludes with Post-Game Fireworks presented by FlipSidePA. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
