
Blue Crabs Hold off Late York Rally to Win 9-7

(YORK, PA)--- Southern Maryland came into the night, having won their first series of the 2015 season last night. Twenty four hours later, Southern Maryland was involved in a thriller with York, beating the revolution 9-7 to take game one of a four game series.
In the top of the first inning with Daryle Ward at the plate, Antone DeJesus would score on a pass ball to make it 1-0. York would then rally and score four runs in the bottom of the first. Wilson Valdez would single, followed by a double from Eric Patterson. With runners at second and third Brandon Jones would single to score Valdez, and Brandon Pounds would follow with a single to score Patterson. Two batters later Luis De La Cruz would single to score Perez and Jones to bring the York lead to 4-1.
Southern Maryland would then score eight unanswered runs in the span of four innings. In the top of the fifth, Casey Frawley would lead off the inning with a solo homerun. In the top of the sixth, York starting pitcher Anthony Lerew would be relieved for by Joe Harris out of the bullpen. Fred Lewis would lead off with a single. The next batter Gustavo Molina would homer to tie the game at four.
In the top of the seventh Casey Stevenson and Jake Opitz would single. Daryle Ward would then single to drive in Stevenson after an error committed by the right fielder Eric Patterson.
In the top of the eighth, the Blue Crabs would score four runs on three hits. Fred Lewis led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later, Jamar Walton would double to bring runners to second and third. Lewis would then be thrown out at homeplate on a groundball to short off bat of Casey Frawley. Antone DeJesus would walk to load the bases. Casey Stevenson would clear the bases with a double. Two batters later Daryle Ward would single to score Casey Stevenson to bring the Blue Crabs lead to 9-4.
In the bottom of the ninth, Wade Korpi would come out of the bullpen. Wade would retire Mikey Reynolds, and Wilson Valdez for the first two outs. Eric Patterson would walk, followed by an Andres Perez double to score Patterson from first. After a Brandon Jones single, Bryan Pounds would single to score Perez and Jones. Erik Hamren would come in relief, and strikeout Johan Limonta to close the door and pick up the win for the Blue Crabs.
The combination of Stevenson, and Opitz went 4-8 with Stevenson driving in three runs overall. Ward, Lewis, Walton, and Frawley each had two hits in the game. The one through six hitters in the York order went a combined 12-25. RHP Brian Baker went five innings for the Blue Crabs giving up four runs on eight hits.
Southern Maryland and York will play game two of this four game set tomorrow night. LHP Logan Williamson (0-1, 0.81) will start for the Revolution, while RHP Jake Hale (1-1, 5.25) will start on the bump for Southern Maryland.
