M-Braves Start Second Half with 9-4 Victory over Generals

PEARL, MS -- Jose Peraza, the Braves No. 6 prospect, made his Double-A debut Thursday at Trustmark Park. Peraza went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI while Cedric Hunter drove in four runs to lead the Mississippi Braves to a 9-4 victory over the Jackson Generals.

Mississippi (1-0, 40-30) scored nine runs on 11 hits while Jackson (0-1, 31-38) plated four runs on nine hits. In addition to Peraza's three-hit debut, Hunter collected two hits and drove in four runs. Kyle Kubitza and Gustavo Nunez also had two-hit nights. Nunez drove in three runs.

Jackson took a 2-0 lead in the second. Julio Morban singled and scored on a Patrick Kivlehan double to right field. A ground out moved Kivlehan to third before Jack Marder delivered an RBI-single to center field.

The M-Braves took a 4-2 lead in the sixth. Kubizta and Braeden Schlehuber reached on ground-ball singles. Nunez followed with a two-run double, tying the game at 2-2. Peraza then tripled to center, driving in the go-ahead run for the Braves. Mycal Jones later reached on an error, allowing Peraza to score the fourth run.

In the sixth, Katel Marte singled and stole second. A ground out allowed him to advance to third, and Daniel Paolini grounded out to drive home Marte and cut the Braves lead to 4-3.

Mississippi extended its lead to 6-3 in the seventh. Nunez and Peraza singled to start the frame. Jones then reached on a fielder's choice, cutting Nunez at third. A double steal moved both runners into scoring position for a Cedric Hunter two-run double to left field.

Jackson made it 6-4 in the eighth. Marte singled and scored on Jamal Austin's triple to center field.

The M-Braves tacked on some insurance runs in the eighth. Kubitza and Elmer Reyes both singled. Nunez reached on a fielder's choice, driving home Kubitza to make it 7-4. Peraza then singled and Jones was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Hunter then delivered a two-run single to make it 9-4.

Jason Hursh (6-4) held Jackson to three earned runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out two batters in seven innings pitched for the Braves. Chasen Shreve (S, 2) worked the final 1.1 innings to pick up the save. Terry Doyle secured a his first hold for the Braves.

Tyler Olson (3-3) started and worked five frames for the Generals. He gave up four earned runs on four hits and two walks while fanning five.

In game two of this five-game series at Trustmark Park, M-Braves right-hander Aaron Northcraft (7-3, 2.87) counters Generals righty Stephen Landazuri (3-2, 4.38). Gates open at 6:00 PM. First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM.
