
Stars Drop Opener in Pensacola

Pensacola, FL-The Pensacola Blue Wahoos took advantage of three first inning walks from Stars RHP Jacob Barnes(1-3) and posted five runs in the opening frame for a series opening 7-2 win over the Stars Thursday night at Bayfront Stadium.
After Barnes retired the first batter in the first, Ryan Wright reached on a throwing error by shortstop Nick Shaw. Barnes, then proceeded to walk back to back hitters.
With the bases loaded Ross Perez cleared the bases on a three-run double to right center giving Pensacola a 3-0 lead.
Kyle Waldrop made it 4-0 on his rbi single into right. Devin Lohman capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly putting the Blue Wahoos ahead 5-0.
Barnes only lasted 1.2 innings as he walked five batters. He allowed five runs(three earned).
The Stars got on the board in the fourth inning when Shawn Zarraga singled home Josh Prince to make it 5-1.
In the fifth the Stars chipped away at the deficit. Shaw was able to score on a wild pitch from Pensacola RHP Daniel Corcino(7-5) making it 5-2.
Corcino, who earned the win pitched six innings. He allowed six hits on two runs.
Pensacola scored the final two runs of the game to put the game away. In the sixth inning, Kyle Waldrop broke for third on a wild pitch from Andy Moye. The catcher Zarraga threw to third but it went into left field scoring Waldrop.
The Blue Wahoos made the score 7-2 in the eigth on Perez's solo homerun. It was his third of the year as it came against Tommy Toledo.
The Stars(0-1, 46-25) and Blue Wahoos(1-0, 32-39) will play game two of their five game series on Friday. LHP Jed Bradley(0-2, 5.14) will start for the Stars. Pensacola will have RHP Jon Moscot(4-5,2.56) on the mound. Friday's game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:15 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
