
Benson to New Orleans; Realmuto, Reed, Leverton to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Birmingham Barons at Bragan Field at 7:05 p.m.
On Monday outfielder Joe Benson was transferred from the Suns to Triple-A New Orleans. With the Suns in 61 games Benson hit .277 with five homers and 31 RBI.
Catcher J.T. Realmuto has been optioned from Miami to Jacksonville. In seven games with the Marlins in the major leagues he hit .200 (4-for-20) with five runs batted in. With Jacksonville earlier this year he hit .301 with five homers and 31 RBI in 46 games and he was named a Southern League South Division All-Star. Realmuto is the No. 10 prospect in the Marlins organization according to Baseball America.
Left-handed relief pitcher Frankie Reed has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. Reed was 2-2 with a 3.22 ERA in 20 games in relief. This will be his second stint with the Suns, after pitching in one game on June 7 against Tennessee, allowing a run in one inning of work.
Also left-handed pitcher James Leverton has been reinstated from the Triple-A New Orleans disabled list and transferred to Jacksonville. Leverton has not pitched so far in the 2014 season. He is a former Sun, going 3-0 with a 3.36 ERA in 23 games and six starts in 2012, and he also appeared in 11 games last year for Jacksonville going 1-1 with a 5.85 ERA. Leverton was on the disabled list with left triceps tendinitis.
Tonight the Suns welcome in the Barons for a start of a five-game series.
