Brampton Steelheads News Release

The Steelheads continued their high-scoring weekend putting six on the board to secure a 6-3 victory over the Owen Sound Attack. Alan Lyszczarczyk's third period natural hat-trick being the difference between the two teams.

The Steelheads picked up from where they left off Friday night against Flint in the first period. The scoring was opened by newly minted Sherwin Williams Top Prospects game alternate captain Thomas Harley. The defenceman jumped into the play and beat Andrew MacLean glove side off a cross-ice feed from Cole Carter. The second goal of the game was the first as a Steelhead for Nick McHugh who worked his way to the front of the net and redirected an attempt by Adam Varga past MacLean. The final Steelheads goal of the period came through Cole Schwindt's 11th of the season, a power play goal set up by a smart Nick Isaacson backhand feed. The Steelheads momentum was slowed by a Barret Kirwin goal with 8:32 left in the frame but the Steelheads held the two goal lead heading into the first intermission by a score of 3-1.

The second period started for Owen Sound just like the Steelheads did in the first. A goal by Maksim Sushko 13 seconds into the period brought the Attack within one as the Flyers draft-pick beat Jacob Ingham on a sharp-angle shot. The score was then tied by Trenton Bourque's third goal of the season, a shot from centre ice that found the back of the net through traffic. The later parts of the period saw the Steelheads end the second outshooting the Attack 17-8. Andrew MacLean continued to splay across his crease while robbing Cole Carter of his 28th of the season in one of many net-front scrambles. The Steelheads were unable to capitalize on two power play opportunities as a result of delay of game and high-sticking infractions by Trenton Bourque and Cade Robinson.

The final frame started as a tug of war with both sides exchanging chances. The early play had two near goals for the Steelheads. Cole Carter was interfered on a breakaway and his penalty shot attempt was just barely stymied by Maclean's right-toe as the goalie stretched to stop the captain's backhand effort. Not too long after, Nick Isaacson forced a puck into the Attack's goal, but the marker was waved off by the official as Isaacson was judged to have impeded with the netminder's ability to make the stop.

It was with 9:05 left in the third that Alan Lyszczarczyk took over the game, first scoring on a spinning shot from the side wall that seemed to catch Andrew McLean off-guard. The winger followed up that advantageous moment, with a moment of brilliance, the former member of the Owen Sound Attack roofing a shot short-side off the rush for the insurance goal. Finally, Lyszczarczyk got in deep and won a battle, adding the empty netter to complete the third period natural Hat-Trick and the 6-3 victory for the Steelheads.

Jacob Ingham was solid in goal for the Steelheads stopping 25 of 28 shots on the night collecting his 50th OHL win in the process. Cole Schwindt (1G, 1A), Liam Ham (2A), Aidan Prueter (2A) and Cole Carter (2A) all contributed multi-point efforts in the win. Nick McHugh's first period goal means that he joins CJ Clarke and Nick Isaacson as first time goal scorers for the Steelheads this weekend. Nicholas Canade continued to transition well to his new role as a defenceman going +1 on the night.

The Steelheads will return to action tomorrow at 2:00 PM against the Sarnia Sting for the team's 7th Annual Bell Let's Talk game at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.
