Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack welcomed the Mississauga Steelheads to the Bayshore tonight for the midway point of three games in three days for the Bears. The Attack won the previous matchup between the two in Mississauga early in the season, but both rosters have had plenty of turnover and Alan Lyszczarczyk was hoping to make an impact in his first game against his former team.

The Steelheads got on the board first with a snipe from Thomas Harley and they were off to the races. Nick McHugh scored his 10th of the year 1:20 later and Cole Schwindt made it 3-0 after a review with his 11th of the season. The Attack were not discouraged and turned things around for the second half of the frame and Barret Kirwin was able to finish off a drive to the net by Maksim Sushko and the Attack had life. Shots in the first period ended 10-8 in favour of Owen Sound, and the teams headed to the locker room with the score 3-1 for the visitors.

Owen Sound came out hungry to tie it up and Maksim Sushko wasted no time getting the Bears on the board by picking the top corner and rifling one over Jacob Ingham's right shoulder and suddenly the lead was cut to one. The Attack continued to push but the Steelheads had chances to counterpunch. Andrew MacLean came up big after settling into the crease and kept the deficit at one until Trent Bourque blasted one from the point and tied the game at 3. Mississauga kept the pressure up and had a large advantage in shots in the period, 17-8.

The third period began with both teams looking for the deciding advantage and Mississauga had a big chance with a penalty shot early in the frame. Cole Carter had his chance but MacLean was there to shut the door and keep it a tie game. Just past the midway point of the third period, Lyszczarczyk scored in his return to the Bayshore and the Steelheads took the 4-3 lead. Lyszczarczyk struck again minutes later and gave the Steelheads a daunting two goal lead. The Attack would push to equalize it and had the goalie pulled but Lyszczarczyk completed the natural hat trick into the empty net and the Steelheads would win this one 6-3.

The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Andrew Perrott. The three stars of the game were Alan Lyszczarczyk with 3G, Maksim Sushko with a goal and an assist, and Liam Ham with two assists on the night.

The Owen Sound Attack will be back in action tomorrow afternoon on the road against the Kitchener Rangers at 2 p.m. The game can be seen on Rogers Channel 53 and heard on 560 CFOS Bear Radio.
