Lynx make deal with Trenton for defenseman
March 10, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx announced today that they have acquired defenseman Evan Nielsen from the Trenton Titans in exchange for forward Jarrett Thompson and defenseman Steve Munn.
Nielsen, 23, appeared in 42 games with Trenton this year, recording three goals and nine points to go with a +5 rating. He also played three games with the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves this season recording no points and two PIMs, and has appeared in a total of 26 games there over three seasons. Originally an eighth round draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers (#242 overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-2, 200 lb. blueliner spent four seasons at the University of Notre Dame where he compiled 16 goals and 67 points to go with 184 PIMs.
"We've been missing a guy who can haul the puck for us recently, especially with Rod Sarich out of the lineup," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Stan Drulia. "We saw what he can do in Gwinnett last year, and he'll definitely help us on the point for the power play."
In exchange, the Lynx send Thompson, 25, and Munn, 26, to the Titans.
Thompson appeared in 28 games for Augusta this season, scoring twice and totaling five points and 46 PIMs. The 6-0, 215 lb. center was in his second season with the Lynx, and fourth as a pro. Over his career, Thompson had amassed 23 goals and 45 points in 112 games.
Munn appeared in two games with the Providence Bruins this year (0-0-0, 5 PIMs) in addition to 17 games with the Lynx where he totaled two assists and 18 PIMs. The Maymont, Saskatchewan native won a Kelly Cup Championship in 2002-03 with the Atlantic City Boarwalk Bullies, a team coached by current Titans head coach Mike Havilland.
The Lynx are back in action on Friday night at 7:05 pm against the South Carolina Stingrays before returning home Saturday night to face off with the Greenville Grrrowl at 7:35 pm. Pre-game show starts one half-hour before puck drop on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
