Titans Acquire Munn, Thompson From Lynx

TRENTON, NJ (March 10, 2005) - The Trenton Titans announced on Thursday that they have acquired defenseman Steve Munn and center Jarrett Thompson in exchange for defenseman Evan Nielsen.

"This is a move that we feel immediately improves our team," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Mike Haviland. "Steve is a stay-at-home defenseman that will bring some stability to our blueline and Jarrett is a gritty, hard-checking center that strengthens our line-up up the middle."

Munn, 6'2", 215 lbs, recorded two assists and 18 penalty minutes in 18 games for the Lynx. A third-year pro, Munn reunites with Haviland where they spent the majority of two seasons (2002-04) with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies and won a Kelly Cup in 2002-03. The Maymont, Saskatchewan native registered 22 points (3g, 19a) and 306 penalty minutes in 135 games with Atlantic City. Prior to beginning his professional career, Munn attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute notching 5 goals, 28 assists and 221 PIM over 140 games during his four seasons with the Engineers.

Thompson, 6'0", 215 lbs, has totaled 24 points (9g, 14a) and 97 PIM in 60 games for Augusta since his debut with the Lynx on January 2, 2004. Also a third-year pro, Thompson split the 2001-02 season with the Greensboro Generals, Macon Whoopee and Roanoke Express before returning to college at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Thompson spent two seasons (2002-04) with the Trojans netting 20 points (8g, 12a) in 20 games. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Thompson enjoyed a five-year career in the Western Hockey League (1997-2001) as he registered 167 points (69g, 98a) and 612 PIM over 205 games with Tri-City, Red Deer and Moose Jaw.

Nielsen leaves the Titans having tallied 9 points (3g, 6a) and 22 PIM over 42 games. A second-year pro, Nielsen split his rookie season between the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL and the AHL's Chicago Wolves, potting 19 points (6g, 13a) in 45 with the Gladiators and chipped in 1 goal over 18 games for Chicago.
