Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx are readying for their busiest pre-season in franchise history with four contests lined up before opening night.
Kicking things off will be the Inaugural Black and Blue Game on October 11th at 6:30 pm. Open to the public and free of admission or parking charges, donations will instead be accepted to benefit the Salvation Army's local relief efforts in the CSRA. Fans arriving at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center prior to puck drop will be treated to a pre-game concert by the Salvation Army Band starting at 6 pm.
Once the puck drops, the teams will play two 20 minute periods with a halftime in between. Halftime will feature Salvation Army Chuck-A-Puck with contestants trying to land their puck in a large red kettle, plus a celebrity broomball game between local community personalities.
The game will culminate in a shootout between the two clubs regardless of score, so fans can get a chance to see the one-on-one skill of this year's Lynx stars. The last player left in this single elimination format will be crowned 2005 Lynx Shootout Champion!
Thursday, October 13th the Lynx will face their first test as a complete team, taking on the Greenville Grrrowl at the Augusta Ice Sports Center at 7 pm. Tickets for the contest are available now at the AISC for $5 each, with all profits going to benefit Augusta youth hockey. Call (706) 863-0061 for more information.
Saturday the Lynx take to the road for the first time to battle the South Carolina Stingrays. The game is open only to South Carolina Stingrays season ticket holders, and will take place at 3 pm.
Finally, Augusta will round out the pre-season with a visit to I-20 rival Columbia Inferno on Tuesday, October 17th at 7 pm. This game is will also be free and open to the public, with no charge for parking. Donations will be accepted at the door for the American Red Cross and their hurricane relief efforts.
The Lynx will kick off the 2005-06 ECHL Season on Friday, October 21st.
Johnson Assigned to Lynx
The Iowa Stars have assigned Jamie Johnson back to the Augusta Lynx following a superb training camp with the American Hockey League club.
Notching six points in three pre-season games with the Stars, including a three assist performance against Peoria on October 1st, Johnson performed very well while in Iowa. A dual affiliate with Edmonton and Dallas, the Stars simply did not have the roster spot available to keep him.
The 23-year-old forward finished tied for second in ECHL scoring last season with 80 points. He was named runner up for ECHL CCM Tacks Player of the Month honors in February, helping the Lynx to a 7-2-2 record while compiling nine goals and 19 points with a +4 rating.
