Stars reassign eight players to Steelheads

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that its American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Iowa Stars, have reassigned eight players to Idaho. All eight players were at the Star's training camp, which kicked off the team's inaugural season in the AHL, on September 25th. Iowa will wrap up camp October 5th.

Goaltender Steve Silverthorn and defenseman Jarad Bourassa, currently on Iowa contracts, have been reassigned. In addition, Steelheads contracted players Dan Hacker (forward), Garrett Bembridge (forward), Tyrell Moulton (defenseman), Jim Hakewill (defenseman), Brad Thompson (forward), and Mike Stutzel (forward) have also been reassigned to the ECHL team.

Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal said, "All six of Idaho's contracted players performed very well at Iowa's camp and made a positive impression on the coaching staff. We're happy to have them back, and they'll be ready to go if Iowa needs them."

Silverthorn, a 6'2", 180-pound, 24-year-old, posted an impressive 24-10-3 record and a .921 save percentage in 37 games with Colgate University last season. The Owen Sound, Ontario native played over 5,744 minutes in four years at Colgate compiling a 55-30-9 record.

The 6'0", 195-pound Bourassa appeared in 60 games for the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League (CHL) last season. While with the Blazers, he notched 16 goals, 19 assists and 63 penalty minutes. A native of Radville, Saskatchewan, he skated in a total of 193 games in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the Moose Jaw Warriors from 2001 through 2004. While with Moose Jaw, he registered 48 points and 220 penalty minutes.

The Idaho Steelheads are the double-A developmental affiliate of the triple-A Iowa Stars and the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars.
