Augusta Lynx News Release

Needing to start the weekend off on the right foot, the Augusta Lynx found scoring from their newest players and strong goaltending from Gregg Naumenko in a 4-1 win over the Roanoke Express Friday night.

Newcomers Terry Marchant and Daisuke Obara figured in the scoring for the Lynx, with Marchant posting his first professional hat trick and Obara adding an assist on the first goal of the game, scored by John Cronin at the 15:40 mark of the first period. Scott Kelman chipped in what would be the first of four assists on the night on the goal as well.

In the second stanza, Marchant notched his first and second goals of the night, starting at 1:01 from Kelman and Jonathan Gagnon, and then the next at 7:40 from Kelman and Treavor Peterson. After making 13 first period saves, Naumenko stopped 12 shots in the second period to keep the Lynx ahead by three at the intermission.

Finally Roanoke was able to break through against the Lynx when Duncan Dalmao scored at the 2:00 mark of the third period from Dan Carlson and Andrew MacPherson. Augusta would come back to reclaim their three goal lead just a short while later at 8:29 as Marchant notched his third goal of the evening from Kelman and Martin Lapointe, who fed the streaking winger at center as he split the defense and beat Jason Wolfe to make it a 4-1 final. Naumenko would finish with 33 saves in the winning effort, while Wolfe stopped 24 shots in the loss for the Express. Both teams were scoreless on the power play, with the Lynx ending up 0-for-6 and the Express 0-for-4 on the night.

Augusta gets right back at it on Tender Veterinary Care Weiner Dog Race Night Saturday against the Columbia Inferno. Game time is 7:35 pm, and the first 400 fans through the door will receive free megaphones from Master's Glen and the Augusta Lynx. The Lynx will then round out the weekend with a game against the Checkers in Charlotte at 3 pm on Sunday.
